Laura Caron Named Brookwood's New Head of School

Thursday, October 2, 2014 - The Brookwood School Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Laura Caron as Brookwood's next Head of School, effective July 1, 2015.

"The Board's unanimous decision followed an enthusiastic recommendation by the Search Committee, which was informed by thoughtful and supportive input from the school community,"  comments Board Chair Nancy Crate.  Chair of the Search Committee Lisa DeConto adds, "Both the Board and the Search Committee were inspired by Laura's skills, values, vision and leadership style, all of which align with Brookwood's core belief in the development of the mind and the development of the self."

Laura brings more than 20 years of experience in the field of education and currently serves as the Director of the Middle School at Westridge School in Pasadena, CA.  A 1991 graduate of Brown University, Laura earned her Master's Degree in Education from Harvard University in 1995.  Having worked in the classroom and also closely with senior academic, leadership and operations teams, Laura brings a keen understanding of the complexities of leading a school.  She is especially excited by "the opportunity to lead an intentional community, rich with self-awareness and spark that is committed to a forward-looking academic program that has children at its core."

In addition to serving as Brookwood's fifth Head of School, Laura joins Brookwood's community with her husband Neil Alsip, their six-year-old daughter, Kate, and four-year-old son, Thomas.

"When Laura joins Brookwood next July, she will be building on nearly 60 years of tradition and a history of excellence at Brookwood while looking ahead to limitless opportunities," reflects Nancy Crate, adding, "The Board is confident that Laura is a compelling, inspiring, engaging and unifying individual who embodies the spirit of warmth, kindness and acceptance that permeates our school. We could not be more excited for the future of Brookwood School under her leadership."
