The PA at Work

The purpose of the Brookwood School Parents’ Association (PA) is to serve as a liaison between parents and faculty, the Board of Trustees and the Administration, as well as to support the School’s mission, programs and activities. The Parents’ Association raises and provides funds for an array of cultural enrichment programs, faculty wish list items, faculty grants and a diverse forum of speakers and parent education programs, intended to enrich and enhance the entire Brookwood community. All Brookwood parents are automatically members of the PA.

We encourage you to stay informed. Attend the PA meetings and check back here, or on This Week At Brookwood and the PA bulletin board in the front lobby, to keep up-to-date on PA activities throughout the year.

Donor Report, 2016-17: Letter from Outgoing PA President,
Alison Harden P20, 23

The Brookwood Parents’ Association would like to thank our parent and faculty community for its continued support through volunteerism and fundraising. The 2016-17 school year was a year of reflection for the PA as we surveyed our community to see what it was looking for from its PA. Bringing parents together was top on your list as were opportunities to give back to our greater communities. We created a volunteer manual that clearly defined the many volunteer roles available at Brookwood and time commitment needed so that everyone, including dual working families, could find something that worked best for them.

In order to meet the desire for more community run events, the PA worked with the school to revise its budget for the 2017-18 school year and beyond. Starting with the 2017-18 school year, the PA will only need to raise funds to cover its programming. The PA is researching new fundraising techniques; ones that don’t require such a large time commitment from you. Our goal is to strengthen our community through programming, meetings, community service and events and in many cases, those will be held in your local towns, helping to bring Brookwood to where our families live.

We are proud of the work we did in 2016-17 to help set us up for success. One thing we are perhaps most proud of is donating a one-time gift of $200,000 to the school to be used at the Head of School’s discretion. These were funds that the PA collected throughout the years, to safeguard against the large budgetary line item we had. With the line item being removed and our focus shifting to community engagement, we no longer had a need to hold on to this emergency fund – we couldn’t be more thrilled!  We are also so proud to have raised money from the auction that went directly to strengthen our technology department, introduce innovative teaching tools into our children’s classrooms and enrich our children’s overall academic experience through cultural enrichment performances and library speakers. We were excited to work in partnership with the school to ensure that your donations were put to good use.

We are so fortunate to have so many parents willing to volunteer their time to enrich our children’s experience. With the introduction of our online volunteer handbook, we hope our parents can find a way to give back that works well with their schedule. We know that your time is valuable and we are grateful for any time that you can give back to our community.
