Applicants to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
The decision regarding the appropriate age to start school can be complex. Many factors determine a child's readiness: emotional/social maturity, fine/gross motor development, cognitive ability, and of course, chronological age.
Children entering PreK are four years old, and similarly, five years old by September 1 to begin Kindergarten. On occasion a child who has a fall birthday will enter PreK with the understanding that the child will be in our PreK program for two years. Every child is special and unique, and each year, we work in partnership with parents around this readiness decision. We remain open to discussing individual cases and are here to lend our expertise in the effort to best place a child for success as the child begins school.
Applicants to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten participate in a playgroup led by Lower School teachers; formal assessments and observations take place within the playgroup session. Parents attend an information coffee during this time.
