Hello! Hi! G’day, mate! Hello is a simple word with the profound ability to make others feel included and valued. Start with Hello is an initiative from Sandy Hook Promise, a national nonprofit founded by families directly impacted by the Newtown shootings. Along with Brookwood, thousands of schools across the country participated in Start with Hello activities that promote connectedness and inclusion.

Last week, our entire school gathered in the Town Square to work in buddy groups to deepen our own community of inclusion. Changemaker leaders Sarah Dawe, Andy Luman and Dan Riles led our community in activities such as creating mini graphic novels about characters transformed by experiencing an unexpected hello, decoupaging mason jar planters with various ways to say hello for a warm welcome all across campus, and exploring how animals greet each other.
