We are excited to announce that we have concluded an extensive national search for our next Head of Lower School who will begin on July 1, 2020, coinciding with Nancy Evans’ transition to Interim Head of School for the 2020-21 school year. From an impressive pool of internal and external candidates, Moira Smith has been selected as our new Head of Lower School.

Moira joined Brookwood School in 2009 as a Learning Skills Specialist and then transitioned into a classroom teacher role in 2015. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she is the Literacy Department Coordinator for PreK-Grade 4 where she collaborates with teachers to implement new curriculum and ensures alignment between grade levels. Moira serves on annual admissions committees and served on the Professional Growth Committee where she helped launch a refreshed professional development process for faculty. Moira is also a member of the Head of School Search Committee.

Prior to her work at Brookwood, Moira served as a teacher, case manager and new faculty coordinator at Landmark Elementary and Middle School; teacher and field group leader at Nature’s Classroom; and playgroup leader at the Ipswich Birth-to-Three Center. Moira earned her master’s degree in education from Simmons College and her bachelor’s degree in English from Washington & Jefferson College.

We look forward to providing opportunities for parents to connect with Moira later this spring!
