Valentine's Day in the Lower School

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to show appreciation and kindness in Lower School. Each grade will have a small Valentine's Day exchange on Thursday, February 13. In Lower School, if your child chooses to make valentines for classmates, we ask that one is made for each child in the class. As we look at store bought or homemade valentines, please be mindful of gender specificity and stereotypes inherent in some cards marketed to children that typecast what it is to be a certain gender. These thoughtful steps will ensure good feelings and a sense of community on a day meant to be fun, inclusive and uplifting. A question that often comes up is whether it’s ok to include candy in valentines. This year in Lower School, it is okay to include treats as long as they are individually wrapped. Classrooms will not be eating these in school, so any candy will be for your child to enjoy at home.
